Introduction to EvE meta professions (click to expand)

EvE^® Online is known for its plethora of features and available professions. You may PvP but also manufacture, research, explore, kill NPCs, mine, harvest planets and moons resources and much, much more.

However, over the years, the sandbox nature of EvE has produced some of the highest forms of never designed professions, known as meta game professions. These professions or “emergent gameplay” are the result of the players interacting between themselves and finding particular needs, practices and solutions to certain issues.

Participating to EvE meta professions may be an extremely arduous challenge to achieve, the game is completely free form with no imposed “legitimacy” check or enforced rules.

Vaerah Vahrokha has always strived to be a meta-gamer in every online game she played and EvE is no exception to that. Vaerah’s keyword is “freedom” and meta gaming is what allows to come as close to that as possible.

Definitioner

Meta game

Meta gaming is a broad term usually used to define any strategy, action or method used in a game which transcends a prescribed ruleset, uses external factors to affect the game, or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game. Another definition refers to the game universe outside of the game itself.

Emergent gameplay refers to complex situations in video games, board games, or table top role-playing games that emerge from the interaction of relatively simple game mechanics.

sandbox

A sandbox game is a type of video game design where a player can roam freely through a virtual world and is given considerable freedom in choosing how or when to approach objectives. Sandbox emphasises a paradigm where, as in a physical sandbox, the user is entertained by his ability to do as they wish creatively and with there being "no right way" of playing the game
